Dr. Stephanie Richardson offers Psychological Testing by referral only.

Teletherapy is available for patients currently in the state of Alaska.

Stephanie wants your experience with mental health therapy or psychological testing to be amazing!  Her top priority is for you to feel cared for and respected.  Stephanie strives for you to find your treatment experience with her  to be valuable and  worthy of the time and cost spent.

Stephanie has over 25 years of experience providing mental health care in Anchorage.  She has a Doctorate degree in psychology from Alaska Pacific University.  She is licensed by the State of Alaska as a psychologist and a professional counselor.  She has worked in Emergency Psychiatry, Residential Treatment, and has been an outpatient provider at Willow Medical & Wellness since 2013.

Stephanie uses evidence-based interventions and psychological tests.  This means that they are backed by research to show that they work.  She also recognizes that each individual is unique and appreciates partnering with her patients as they share their preferences and perspectives.

Stephanie has specialized training in treating depression, anxiety, OCD, fear of flying, and relationship challenges.  She welcomes the opportunity to integrate her training in psychological testing to help identify and clarify diagnostic issues and dynamics in formulating treatment goals, planning…and helpful next steps.

Nervous About Your First Appointment? Often people are nervous because they don’t know what to expect.  Here’s an overview-when you first call the clinic: You will have an opportunity to talk with our intake coordinator.  They will ask for a brief summary of what prompted you to call.  This is so we can make sure that we provide what you are looking for. They will then then send you some standard paperwork to complete.  This saves you time at your first appointment.  When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be greeted by Tanner, Courtney, or Kammie.  They are friendly and go out of their way to help patients feel welcome.

Stephanie starts appointments on time (except on the rare occasion).  She will tell you about her philosophy of care and learn more about what led you to reach out for treatment.  Do not feel like you need to have everything sorted out to explain it to her.  It’s common for people to “just talk.”  By the end of the conversation, she will have worked with you to identify goals for therapy or testing.  She will also talk with you about a treatment or testing plan moving forward.

I’m afraid to talk about personal experiences, or to disclose embarrassing issues.  You decide what and when you share information.  Take the  time you need  to develop trust with Stephanie. For therapy patients, she will provide you with tools to lower your anxiety.  You can use them as you start to share painful or embarrassing experiences.

I worry that she will want me to make changes that I’m not ready to make.  In therapy, Stephanie will offer you tools.  You decide what you want to use, and when you want to use them.  If you are unsure, talk with Stephanie about it.  She will respect your uncertainty.

I need psychological testing.  What if I fail the test? Good news!  You can’t fail.  While testing is standardized, the information is unique to you.  Ultimately, the goal with testing is to increase understanding of your daily experiences and make recommendations about interventions that may either  help reduce stress or impairments and/or  improve your resiliency to navigate your life.
