David Telford, MD Adult Psychiatrist
Dr. Telford has been serving the mental health needs of Alaskans for over 24 years practicing psychiatry in Alaska since 1996. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Medical University. His primary focus has been treating acutely ill patients and has been the medical director of the Adult Mental Health Unit at Providence Alaska Medical Center since 2000. He is a past president of the Alaska Association and has served as psychiatry department chair at Providence Alaska Medical Center and medical director for the Psychiatric Emergency Department. Dr. Telford is well-recognized amongst his peers as one state of our states most skilled, dedicated, compassionate, and competent psychiatrists. Over the years, Dr. Telford has become increasingly aware of the limitations of antidepressants and has become interested in pursuing other methods for treating depression. He was introduced to TMS firsthand in 2017 when providing urgent coverage for the TMS practice of a psychiatrist colleague. Excited about TMS and committed to expanding local community access, Dr. Telford decided to collaborate with another local psychiatrist, Dr. Eileen Ha. In 2018 they created an Alaskan owned, physician run TMS clinic, True North TMS at Willow Medical. He enjoys offering a safe and effective treatment option and a better chance for recovery with TMS for refractory depression when other treatment options have failed or have been suboptimal.
